Once you’ve decided to build your own home, you’ll want to set aside some time to select the right home builder. Here are some tips for finding the best one for you:
Check them out. Make sure the builder or home remodeler has a permanent business location and a good reputation with local banks and suppliers. Ask for references, as well as previous customers, and call them. If you can check out a previously built home, or one that’s in the process of being built, that’s even better.
Make sure they are properly licensed and insured. Make sure the builder has all the necessary permits and licenses, as well as sufficient workers compensation and general liability insurance.
Ask questions. Find out how long they have been in the building business. You want to make sure they will be around after the construction is complete to service any warranties. How well do they handle questions? This is important because you’ll be working closely with your builder for months and you’ll undoubtedly have a lot of them.
